As a Counselling Therapist, I work with people experiencing grief and loss, trauma and post-traumatic stress, depression and/or anxiety as well as those searching for meaning and purpose in life. I believe healing comes by helping people tell their stories and tapping into their resilience. The goal is to leave two things: (1) knowledge that you can heal through pain and (2) hope that you can once again feel joy in life.
As a Grief Recovery Specialist, I help people follow a healing method specifically designed to support grief recovery. This includes challenging myths of grief, examining coping strategies, and completing any loss that seems incomplete. Additional training in Trauma & Strategies for Coping with Post-Traumatic Stress helps me guide clients through traumatic memories should they arise.
As a Clinical Counselling Hypnotherapist, I use an integration of clinical hypnosis and mindfulness-based practice that helps people deepen their awareness of their thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and perceptions. The trance state helps individuals connect to their “clarity consciousness”, which can be useful in helping make decisions necessary for reaching one’s goals.
My formal education includes a Masters of Counselling from Acadia University and a Masters of Adult Education from Mount Saint Vincent University. My professional affiliations include certification by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) and the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists as a Registered Counselling Therapist – Candidate (RCT-C).
My practice is part of the Harvard Street Healing Arts Centre in Halifax.
